A New Hospital in Four Months: A Design Journey Meeting Service Challenges | KODW 2021

23 Jun 2021

To cope with another potential wave of the epidemic, the HKSAR Government, with the support of the Central Government, has been working closely and collaboratively with the appointed Contractor and other government bureaux/departments and stakeholders to deliver within 4 months the North Lantau Hospital Hong Kong Infection Control Centre with 816 isolation beds and other supporting facilities next to the AsiaWorld-Expo. This unprecedented and seemingly impossible task to many would not be accomplished timely without the fast-track design development, well planned construction sequence and seamless decision-making process. The construction was commenced in September 2020 and completed in January 2021, just 4 months from day zero on site. With relentless efforts of all parties, the hospital was put into use in February 2021.
