
Founded in 2024 by Mr. Franco Cutrupia and Mrs. Pauline Cutrupia under the Sapientia Foundation, GuWei Museum is the first private museum in Hong Kong Southern District. GuWei is committed to promoting Chinese and foreign art and heritage through its extensive collections and themed exhibitions.
The museum integrates its exhibitions with education and cultural programmes, offering classes for students of all ages and leveraging modern technology to make historical and artistic exhibits more accessible, particularly for younger visitors. A panoramic coffee shop and a library lounge premises complete the museum leisure offer for visitors.
Major Achievements:
Founded in 2017 in Hong Kong, the Sapientia Foundation is a non-profit organisation dedicated to education and cultural exchanges. In 2019, theFoundation established the non-profit Italian International Nursery and Kindergarten at its own premises in Wong Chuk Hang. In 2024, the Sapientia Foundation established the GuWei Museum, the first private museum in Hong Kong’s Southern District at its own premises in Wong Chuk Hang.
Since its opening, in addition to the permanent collection, the Museum has hosted the following exhibitions:
- “The Dragon and Phoenix Offer Auspiciousness” (24/09/2024-16/02/2025)
- “Chinese Dragon and Snake Connection: The Snake in the Chinese and Foreign Cultures (14/01/2025-31/12/2025)
- Traces of Travelling the Mountains and Seas: Simon Yung Solo Exhibition (04/03/2025-15/06/2025)
- “The Wanli Shipwreck: Blue and White Porcelain in Global Trade” (06/07/2025-31/03/2026)
The Museum has also organised a variety of cultural classes and workshops for children aged 3 to 12 and adults. Students from schools and members of social organisations have been welcomed for guided tours.
