Thonik is a design studio based in Amsterdam, focused on change. We operate globally, with major projects in Europe and Asia.
We empower our clients with a bold visibility. Our team is international, multi-disciplinary and diverse. With UX, UI, graphic, typographic and motion design, we integrate online, offline and on-site communication. We offer strategy, identity and branding; website design and social media campaigns; wayfinding, scenography and super graphics.
In 2019 we published a monograph Why We Design (in English, available through Lars Müller and in Chinese, available at the Power Station of Art (PSA) in Shanghai). At the PSA, we hosted an exhibition under the same title that attracted a record-breaking 150,000 visitors. Thonik's work is also part of the permanent collection of the The Centre Pompidou in Paris.
Thonik did many prize-winning projects for numerous cultural and commercial institutions like the City of Amsterdam, Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, Rotterdam, M+ museum, Hong Kong; Hyundai Department Stores, Seoul; Spiral, also known as Wacoal Art Center, Tokyo; Power Station of Art, Shanghai; the Dutch broadcast corporation VPRO; The University of Amsterdam and the Holland Festival in Amsterdam.
In 2020, Thonik moved into its new studio building. The six-storey building is self-designed and developed. The black-and-white stripes on the façade refer to the 1968 Mexico Olympics graphics by Lance Wyman. The building was presented the Best Building Award 2021 under Icon & Identity category by Dutch Architects Association.
