Established in 1993, French May is one of the largest cultural events in Asia. With more than 100 programmes presented across two months of the Festival, it has become an iconic part of Hong Kong's cultural scene that reaches over 350 thousand visitors each year. The objectives of French May are to connect everything, to be everywhere, and for everyone.
To connect everything is to showcase the most diversified art forms, from heritage and contemporary arts, paintings and design, to classical music and contemporary dance, as well as cinema and puppets.
To be everywhere by bringing performances across various venues and districts in Hong Kong, including the unusual and unexpected: from cultural centres and shopping malls to public spaces, the racecourse, and Victoria Harbour.
For everyone, as the Festival aims to reach out to the entire community by developing educational programmes, talks, guided tours, workshops, and masterclasses, including those that directly benefit the young and less privileged.
For 30 years, French May has been truly international and distinctly local, dedicated to contributing to the unique appeal of Asia's World City, Hong Kong. The French May Arts Festival received the “Gold Award for Arts Promotion 2008” from the Hong Kong Arts Development Council.
Project(s) in Asia
French May brings arts to everyone, not only in cultural venues, but also in public spaces, shopping malls and more, inviting everyone across Hong Kong to enjoy arts in their daily lives.
With the aim of promoting accessible arts for all, French May places a strong emphasis on education through outreach programmes, guided tours, workshops, masterclasses, and free performances.
The Festival strives to reach the widest possible audience and contribute to the education of the young and less privileged, working closely with over 50 local institutions and organisations to establish barrier-free arts access.
