The Hong Kong Denim Festival is back!

Denim has deep roots in human history and culture, found in museums, antique stores, and archaeological sites.

In the 17th century, French weavers developed this sturdy, twill-weave cotton fabric known as "serge de Nîmes" from which the word "denim" is derived. In 1969 a writer for American Fabrics magazine said, “Denim is one of the world’s oldest fabrics, yet it remains eternally young.”

In the early 20th century, denim symbolized hard work, becoming the fabric of choice for American cowboys, miners, and farmers. The 1960s to 90s saw jeans become cultural signifier of rebellion and self-expression, and brought diverse styles influenced by hippie movement and hip-hop culture.

Today, as we ask, ‘what the future of denim will look like?’ “4th HONG KONG DENIM FESTIVAL – DENIM ARTISTRY (HKDF)” will explore the possibility of denim, from the art to fashion, providing a dynamic platform for young designers and celebrating local culture.

As part of this festival, the 2nd Global Denim Talent Programme (GDTP) aims to nurture Hong Kong creative talent for the denim industry. This incubation program provides aspiring young designers and start-ups with invaluable mentorship, training, extensive networking opportunities, and comprehensive business support.

The first round of events has kicked off with a denim exhibition at the CENTRESTAGE 2025, featuring local and international design brands, designers, and artists. We extend our gratitude to all participants, with special thanks to Ms. LAW Shuk Pui, Rosanna, JP, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, for her support and engagement with the GDTP designers.

A series of events for the "4th HONG KONG DENIM FESTIVAL – DENIM ARTISTRY (HKDF)" will take place from November 7th to December 11th in Hong Kong. Further details will be announced on the festival's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/hkdenimfestival.
