Josep Lluís Mateo studied at the Barcelona School of Architecture before receiving his PhD with Honours at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. He has been a Professor of Architecture and Design at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology since 2002 and was Visiting Professor in Architecture at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design, 2015.
Mateo is Principal of the globally active architecture practice, Mateo Arquitectura, which attempts to connect intelligence and artistic ambition with pragmatism and objectivity. The practice has won a number of prizes and awards including the NAN Best Spanish Project Abroad in 2010 and 2011.
Also a published author in his field, Mateo is known for his written works “Josep Lluís Mateo, Opere e progetti” released in 2007 and “On Building: Matter and Form” released in 2012. Mateo’s works have been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York and the Galerie d’Architecture in Paris.
